The Project
Why?
Sierra Leone was in a civil war between 1994 and 2001. During this civil war, some call it one of the cruelest in the past century, many civilians were killed or mutilated. A large number of children were kidnapped by the rebels and seperated from their parents. Also many civilians fled their homes and became homeless. Institutions like schools and hospitals were destroyed or severely damaged. Sierre Leone was at the bottom of the UN Human Development Index. The Sierra Leonears have started to rebuild their country, but because of the great poverty it’s a task they can not do alone. The Voice of Sierra Leone Association has been founded to help the local population. The foundation wants to do this by investing in the education of children, because they are Sierra Leone’s future.

What?
The Voice of Sierra Leone Association wants to start by supporting a school by buying furniture, toilets and schoolmaterials. After this they plan to build a school and a clinic in an area where there is no education and healthcare for children at the moment: Lungi. It concerns a schoolbuilding with 6 classrooms, which makes it possible to educate 200 pupils. The clinic will offer healthcare for the pupils and the local people living in Lungi. 30 of the pupils will also be offered housing on the premises of the school. This will be set up especially for orphans, street kids and former child soldiers.

How?
The partnerorganisation in Sierra Leone is setting up a chickenfarm in order to use the benefits of this farm for the builiding and a long lasting financing of the school. This project will cost an ammount of €55.250,-. We found NCDO willing to sponsor us for €25.000,- Apart from this another organisation called Wilde Ganzen allowed us to participate in their "Meerwaardeactie". This means they will raise the ammount we collect with 70%, this means we need to collect €22.500,- by ourselves. This sole amount will be needed to build the chickenfarm.
